Applications Sought for Alabama Power Foundation Educational Grants

Applications are now being accepted for the Alabama Power Foundation's 2002 Educational Grant Program. The grants, up to $1,000 each, are awarded for innovative programs developed by teachers. The grants are open to all K-12 educators, regardless of the subject they teach.

"In these tough economic times, we're especially pleased to be able to provide these grants to creative, dedicated teachers across Alabama," said William B. Johnson, the Foundation's president. "We hope these grants will help inspire teachers to develop exciting, new programs that directly benefit our children."

Applications for the Educational Grant Program must be postmarked by Feb. 1, 2002. Grants will be announced May 1, 2002. The Foundation urges educators to make copies of the grant application and distribute them to other interested teachers.

Since 1991, the Alabama Power Foundation has awarded more than 1,200 educational grants worth nearly $2 million. In the past decade, the Alabama Power Foundation has invested more than $50 million in community and education programs around the state. The Foundation continues to invest in programs and projects aimed at improving the quality of life in Alabama.
