Alabama Power Board of Directors Elects Marsha S. Johnson Vice President

At a meeting of the Alabama Power Company Board of Directors on July 28, 2000, Marsha S. Johnson was elected to the position of vice president, customer service for Alabama Power.

Johnson most recently served as Alabama Power's director of customer service, responsible for the business and residential call centers.

"Marsha Johnson has made tremendous contributions to this company in her previous role, and her election to vice president of customer service will allow her to continue raising the bar of excellence in dealing with the most important part of our business -- our customers," said Elmer Harris, Alabama Power's president and chief executive officer.

Marsha received her Bachelor of Science degree from Jacksonville University where she majored in political science and government. She also attended the University of Pennsylvania's Executive Accounting and Finance program at the Wharton School of Business, and Harvard University's International Senior Manager's program at the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration.

Johnson began her career with Atlanta-based Southern Company in 1986 as a management development analyst. She served in positions of increasing responsibility until coming to Alabama Power in 1991 as assistant to the vice president in the Mobile Division. She was promoted to the position of director of customer service in 1997.

In her new role, Johnson will have responsibility for the residential and business call centers, the customer service support functions in the revenue accounting office, customer service training and all customer satisfaction research efforts for Alabama Power.

Johnson is an alumnus of Leadership Jacksonville, Leadership Atlanta and Leadership Mobile, where she also served on the board of directors. She was also a member of the board of directors for the Mobile Museum of Art and the Historic Mobile Preservation Society. She is a 2000 nominee for the International Women's Leadership Forum.

A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Johnson is a member of Sixth Avenue Baptist Church in Birmingham, where she serves as a member of the Board of Trustees.
