What: The second annual Smith Lake cleanup will be this Thursday, April 17 and Friday, April 18. Volunteers with boats will meet each day at Jim King’s dock building at 8 a.m. The cleanup will target Styrofoam and abandoned piers. The cleanup ends each day at noon.

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by Smith Lake Advocacy.

Overview: Renew Our Rivers, the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaign,
has collected nearly 9 million pounds of trash and debris from Alabama and Southeast rivers since its 2000 inception. There are 27 cleanups planned through Oct. 25.

Cleanups are held on the Cahaba, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Black Warrior and Mobile rivers in Alabama.

Directions: Directions to Jim King’s dock building
From Cullman – Take Highway 278.  Take left onto County Road 77.  Travel approximately five miles and take a left onto County Road 22. Travel approximately five miles until it ends.  Take a left onto County Road 4006.  Take next right onto County Road 222.  County Road 222  ends at Jim King’s dock building.
