The Cleveland Avenue YMCA Stands Out in Montgomery
PRNewswire

The Cleveland Avenue YMCA stands out like a jewel in one of Montgomery's predominantly lower-income neighborhoods and provides positive instruction and role models to the area's children. Located in the hub of the historic Cleveland Avenue neighborhood, the YMCA serves mostly disadvantaged youth. However, its impact is far-reaching, offering programs to youth throughout the west and central part of the city.

The Cultural Arts and Education Center is a project of the Cleveland Avenue YMCA. This unique 20,000 square foot facility has been open for only a few short months, and already the enthusiasm it has created is unprecedented. The Center offers instruction in dance, music, visual arts and theater arts. The guiding standard of the activities and programs is the YMCA's mission to "put Christian principals into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit and body for all."

Under the leadership of Mr. Willie Jones, this YMCA has worked for years to create a "jewel of hope" in the community. By allowing these children a chance to learn and show their talents, the YMCA Cultural Arts and Education Center is teaching them the valuable lesson that discipline, hard work and high standards are the keys to ensuring success.

This facility cannot exist without support from public and private donations. Dr. David Bronner, Chief Executive Officer of The Retirement Systems of Alabama said, "I have personally seen the difference this facility is making in the lives of our young people, and I am convinced that there is no better investment we can make in their future."

An open house is being planned for early March; more details will follow. Everyone is encouraged to come to the Center and see for themselves the opportunities this facility is providing by addressing the needs of our inner- city community and children.
