Alabama Power to Temporarily Lower Lay Lake

On May 30, Alabama Power will begin to lower the level of Lay Lake below Logan Martin Dam to conduct measurements.

Lay Lake is scheduled to be lowered to an elevation of 393 feet above mean sea level. Normal pool elevation at Lay Lake is 396 feet above mean sea level.

The lowering of Lay Lake should be completed on June 1. Alabama Power will begin filling Lay Lake on June 2 and will return the lake level to normal pool on June 4. The drawdown is required by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

Persons in the affected areas are encouraged to call 1-800-LAKES11 for updated information on lake elevations.

Alabama Power owns and operates 14 hydroelectric plants in Alabama, providing clean, low-cost electricity. The facilities also provide more than 157,000 acres of water and more than 4,000 miles of shoreline for the public's use and enjoyment.
