Leigh Davis to lead Alabama Power's Corporate Real Estate Department

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Aug. 21, 2008 - Leigh Davis, who currently serves as vice president and CIO for Alabama Power, has been asked to assume leadership of the company’s Corporate Real Estate department.  The change is effective immediately. In her role as vice president and director of Corporate Real Estate, she will lead the organization that manages all aspects of the company’s real estate needs.

“Leigh has demonstrated broad abilities in leadership throughout her career at Alabama Power and is well-suited to assume this important position,” said Alabama Power President and CEO Charles McCrary.  “Her experience with compliance and legal matters, economic development and external relations will complement her oversight of Corporate Real Estate.”

Davis, a Birmingham native, began her career at Alabama Power with working in Governmental Relations and Environmental Affairs.  She also has worked as a compliance manager at Miller Steam Plant, served as an attorney in Southern Company’s Washington, D.C., office and worked as assistant to the vice president of Governmental Affairs.  Additionally, she has experience as a project manager for the Alabama Power Office of Economic and Community Development and as manager of the Corporate Concerns department.

Davis obtained both a law degree and bachelor of science degree from the University of Alabama.  She also holds a master’s degree in business administration from Samford University. 

She currently serves on the boards of TechBirmingham, Alabama Information Technology Association (AITA), Auburn University’s Management Information Systems Advisory Board and the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Information Systems Advisory Council. She is also actively involved in a formal mentoring program with the University of Alabama School of Commerce and Business Administration. In the local community, Davis serves on the boards of Girls Inc., Children’s Dance Foundation and Youth Serve.  Davis is currently participating in the inaugural class of Leadership UAB and is a graduate of Leadership Birmingham, YWCA’s MOMENTUM and Project Corporate Leadership. She was recently named to the “Top 40 Under 40” list by the Birmingham Business Journal.
