Kathleen King elected VP and CIO of Alabama Power

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Oct. 24, 2008 - The Alabama Power Company board of directors has elected Kathleen King vice president effective immediately.  In her role, King will lead the development and implementation of information technology strategy and operations as chief information officer for the company.

King recently served as chief financial officer and vice president of Corporate Services at Southern Nuclear. In this role, she oversaw various corporate functions that support the operations of Southern Company’s nuclear operating subsidiary.

“Kathleen’s career experience makes her perfectly suited for this leadership role for Alabama Power,” said Alabama Power President and CEO Charles McCrary. “The efficient operation of our IT infrastructure is critical to being able to provide reliable electric service to our customers.”

King joined Southern Company in 1997 as CFO and comptroller at Southern Nuclear.  Previously, King served as controller for Southern Ready Mix Inc. and as audit manager of Arthur Andersen LLP. 

King is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of CPAs.  She holds a bachelor’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo.
