ESCATAWPA, Miss. - Nov. 4, 2008 - A crew from LandCoast Insulation Inc. suffered multiple injuries and a fatality after the scaffolding the crew was erecting collapsed today at Mississippi Power’s Plant Daniel in Jackson County.

The accident occurred at 5:50 a.m. when the scaffolding inside the boiler house collapsed. The seven contract crew members, who were working on the site as part of a routine maintenance outage, are employed by LandCoast Insulation Inc. of New Iberia, Louisiana, a subcontractor of PIC.

LandCoast confirmed one fatality among its crew members. In addition, four of its employees were treated and released from Singing River Hospital, while two were being held for observation and treatment of broken bones.

During boiler maintenance, scaffolding is used to reach the multi-storied levels inside the massive structure.
