Georgia Power needs customers’ help to update phone numbers

In an effort to improve the efficiency of its Customer Service System, Georgia Power is launching an initiative in January to update phone numbers for all of its customers. A reminder to check your phone number, and update it, will go out in January power bills. The bills will be sent out beginning the first week in January. The phone number that is currently on file will be printed directly above the account number on the bill.

Customers will have three ways to update their phone numbers. They can mark through the number on the bill, write in the correct number directly above the account number and send it in with their payment. Customers can also call 1-866-7-UPDATE (1-866-787-3283) and use the automated phone system to update the number, or they can make the change on the internet at www.georgiapower.com by clicking on the “Update Phone Number” link and following the directions.

Customers are encouraged to use one of the above mentioned methods in order to update their phone numbers accurately and efficiently. Individuals that provide bill payment and other correspondence assistance to family members and friends are being asked to verify those phone numbers as well. Georgia Power will use the numbers solely for its customer service records and will not share or sell the phone lists. Unlisted numbers will remain confidential.

Updating the phone numbers is critical to Georgia Power’s response time for outages. Currently, when a customer calls the outage hotline at 1-888-891-0938, the company’s system uses their phone number for identification and customer information. Georgia Power Company would like to insure that every outage is reported timely and accurately. Each customer can help in this effort by making sure their phone number is correctly recorded in Georgia Power Company’s customer service system.
