Georgia Power Co. receives utility award in the electric transportation industry

Georgia Power Co. was honored by the Electric Transportation Coalition as the 1997 leading utility for its “Atlanta Electric Vehicle-Ready Community Market Launch.” The award was presented at the 14th International Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exposition in Orlando, FL, this past December.

Georgia Power was selected by the ETC for its promotional efforts of electric vehicles throughout Georgia communities. During 1997 the electric transportation staff held employee forums, clean cities workshops and ride and drives highlighting the benefits of electric transportation. Also, Georgia Power conducted a statewide EV-tour program and supported legislation to have Atlanta high occupancy vehicle lanes accessible for alternative fueled vehicles.

“We are very pleased to receive this award from the ETC and Georgia Power will continue to be a leader and innovator in the electric transportation industry,” said Mike Anderson, manager of electric transportation, Georgia Power Co.

Georgia Power is the largest of five operating companies that comprise Southern Company, one of the largest investor-owned electric utility groups in the nation. As part of its commitment to electric vehicles, Georgia Power participates in industry associations at both the national and local levels.
