Ronald Brown joins Georgia Power`s Board of Directors

Georgia Power elected Atlanta Life Financial Group President and CEO Ronald D. Brown November 12 to its board of directors.

Atlanta Life is a privately owned financial services company with two operating units, Atlanta Life Insurance Company and Atlanta Life Investment Advisors.

These business units serve more than 2 million customers, with $16 billion of life insurance in force and more than $140 million in assets under management.

Atlanta Life is the No. 1 African-American reinsurer of group life benefits, and in 2005, it will celebrate its 100th anniversary.

A recognized leader in customer relationship management and sales force technology, Brown spent more than 10 years at the CEO level with The Variant Group, SYNAVANT and IMSH Strategic Technologies prior to joining Atlanta Life.

He assumed the position of president and CEO of Atlanta Life in March 2004 after having served for two years as a member of the company’s board of directors.

“Ronald’s keen business sense, coupled with his success in building strong executive teams, will make him a perfect fit as a member of our board of directors,” said Mike Garrett, Georgia Power president and CEO.

“He will be a tremendous asset to our company, and we are pleased to have him as a member of our board.”

Brown is a graduate of Morehouse College with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He has also completed Columbia University’s Financial Management Program.

He currently serves as director of the Emory Hospital Visitors Committee and is a trustee of the African-American Experience Fund, a division of the National Parks Service. Georgia Power is the largest subsidiary of Southern Company, one of the nation’s largest generators of electricity. The company is an investor-owned, tax-paying utility, serving customers in 57,000 of the state’s 59,000 square miles. Georgia Power’s rates are more than 15 percent below the national average, and its 2 million customers are in all but six of Georgia’s 159 counties.
