Georgia Power’s Judy Anderson Named 2003 Georgia Woman of the Year

The Georgia Woman of the Year Committee, Inc. has selected Judy Anderson, Georgia Power’s senior vice president of Charitable Giving and president and CEO of Georgia Power Foundation, Inc., as its 2003 Georgia Woman of the Year.

This year’s event to honor Anderson will be held on July 22 at 103 West restaurant. The reception begins at 7 p.m. followed by dinner and the program at 7:30. Corporate tables (to seat 10) are available for $1000 each and individual tickets are available for $75 each.

“We are delighted to recognize Judy as our 2003 Woman of the Year for her many outstanding philanthropical and professional achievements in the community and state and for her example as an inspiration to Georgia women,” said Nellie Duke, chair of the Georgia Commission on Women and Georgia Woman of the Year committee.

Past Georgia Woman of the Year honorees are: Rosalyn Carter, 1996; Dr. Betty Siegel, 1997, Justice Leah Sears, 1998; Dr. Claire Hicks, 1999; Secretary of State Cathy Cox, 2000; Marie Barnes, 2001; and Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin, 2002.

All proceeds from the event, sponsored by the Georgia Commission on Woman, go directly to scholarships presented to women who are students in Georgia colleges, universities, and technical schools. Since the organization’s inception, 30 Georgia women have benefited from these scholarships.
