Savannah Electric promotes Chipper Christmas Tree Recylcing Program

Savannah Electric will once again participate, in partnership with Keep Savannah Beautiful, in the annual Chipper Christmas Tree Recycling Program this Saturday, January 3, 1998.

The statewide event encourages the public to bring their old Christmas trees to specified locations where they will be ground into mulch. The free service is provided from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at four locations in the Savannah area: the Bacon Park Landfill Station, the Dean Forest Landfill Station (drop-off only; closes at 2:45), the Wilmington Island Landfill Station, and The Home Depot on Abercorn Street.

The "Chipper" program`s benefits include conserving landfill space, providing free mulch to the public and in some cases promoting new tree plantings through the distribution of a limited supply of seedlings.

Savannah Electric is proud of its association with this event and has participated every year since it became a statewide program in 1990.
