Delivering rates well below the national average

We must be living right. Savannah Electric`s residential electric rates are some of the lowest in the country. They`re lower than Charlotte, Houston or Chicago. They`re also lower than New York and San Francisco and even lower than nearby cities such as Tampa, Tallahassee and Charleston.

And we`re working hard to keep them that way. Savannah Electric has not raised its base rates since 1985 -- that`s 15 years! In fact, we`ve lowered prices a number of times since then. For years, our customers have been enjoying the base rate reductions implemented in 1988, 1990, 1991, and 1992. Small business customers received further price cuts in 1998, 1999 and 2000.

Our rates are made up of base rates and a fuel allowance. We make our earnings off of the base rates but are not allowed any mark-up on the fuel cost allowance. And while the fuel cost recovery varies as fuel and purchased power costs change, that has been well-managed too. Prior to recent adjustments, the fuel cost recovery allowance had not risen since 1992 and was reduced in 1996.

Savannah Electric is part of Southern Company, America`s largest energy producer. Our size and efficiency allow us to deliver safe, dependable power at lower rates for our customers. That makes the Savannah area a better place to work, play, and live.
