Savannah Electric storm team, evaluators head to Florida; work on Georgia Power system complete, crews will keep eye on Ivan

Savannah Electric’s storm team completed its work in Georgia Power territory today and will travel to Florida on Friday. In addition, an eight-person damage assessment team left Savannah at about 2:00 p.m. Thursday to assist Florida Power & Light in the St. Augustine area.

The 19 person Savannah Electric Storm Team, including employees from both Savannah and Springfield operations centers will head for the Daytona area, while keeping a watchful eye on the tropics.

The crews should return Saturday or Sunday pending developments with Hurricane Ivan. Savannah Electric is requiring its crews to work no further south than Daytona, so that they can return to Savannah within one day’s travel.
