Savannah Electric warns of new customer scam attempts

Savannah Electric has learned of several recent incidents where customers were called on the telephone, sometimes late at night, with threats of power disconnection if they don’t pay.

According to reports, the caller will claim that the customer must pay over the phone using a credit card in order to prevent disconnection the next morning.

Savannah Electric warns customers to report such calls to the police and also to the company. Savannah Electric does not make after-hours collection calls and would not request a credit card number over the phone.

Customers are also reminded that employees and contractors of Savannah Electric are required to carry a photo ID card with Savannah Electric logo. They should not need to enter your home unless you have called for a specific service requiring inside work.

If customers have any question about an employee’s identity or need verification of any service to be performed, they should call Savannah Electric at 1-800-437-3890.
