Savannah Electric Warns of Customer Scam Attempts

Savannah Electric has learned of several recent incidents where individuals posing as Savannah Electric contractors are attempting to defraud customers with false repair and maintenance charges.

According to reports, the individual will claim that certain work is necessary to maintain the customer’s electric service and that immediate cash payment is required. They may even cut the customer’s electric service and say that work must be performed before service can be restored.

The most recent incidents have occurred in west Savannah.

The company warns customers to be extremely wary of any such phone calls or visits where the caller requests access to the residence or requests payment in the field.

All Savannah Electric employees and contractors are required to carry a photo ID card with Savannah Electric logo. Many employees who conduct fieldwork also wear a uniform style of clothing with company ID and drive a company vehicle. Customers should call 1-800-437-3890 if they have any question about an employee’s identity or need verification of any service to be performed. Any electrical outage should be reported on the company’s Outage Hotline at 1-800-390-2834.
