Mississippi Power names new Meridian division manager

David Buckner has been named manager of Mississippi Power’s Meridian division, effective June 4. He replaces Mark Cawthon, who was named general manager of system operations at Georgia Power earlier this year.

Buckner began his Southern Company career in 1983, most recently serving as assistant to the executive vice president and chief marketing officer. He has held positions of responsibility in numerous areas within Georgia Power and Southern Company, including customer service, supply chain management, national accounts, marketing information systems, and e-Business.

“We’re very excited about having David fill this position,” said Mississippi Power president and CEO, Anthony Topazi. “His background includes a wide variety of internal and external roles, and his involvement in economic development will be an especially strong asset with all the opportunities developing in the Meridian area."

A native of Columbus, Georgia, Buckner earned a degree in business administration and management from Clayton State College (Morrow, Georgia). His previous civic involvement includes active leadership and planning roles in the South Metro Atlanta area, serving on the Henry County Chamber of Commerce and the board of directors of Leadership Henry. He also led Hands on Henry, an annual community service project.

Mississippi Power, a Southern Company subsidiary, serves more than 195,000 customers in 23 southeast Mississippi counties.
